The USA Biolympiad (USABO) is run by the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), a nonprofit organization.

USABO is a national biology competition for high school students. It begins with an online Open Exam taken at registered schools. Top scorers advance to a Semifinal Exam, then to National Finals, and four students are selected to represent the United States at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO).

    Open Exam February 3, 2027 · 4 PM ET

Top 10% advance to the Semifinal Exam.

  2. 2

    Semifinal Exam March 2, 2027 · 4 PM ET

120 minutes, proctored. Part A mainly multiple choice, Part B multiple true/false, Part C short answer and/or essay on IBO practical topics. No penalty for guessing.

The top 20 are invited to the National Finals (finalists announced March 30, 2027).

  3. 3

National Finals June 20–30, 2027 (in person only)

A residential program with laboratory and theoretical training plus a practical exam (about 6 hours) and a theoretical exam (about 3 hours).
